چکیده

Topographic attributes are often used as explanatory variables when providing spatial estimates of various environmental attribute response variables. Elevation of sampling locations can be derived from global positioning systems (GPS) or digital elevation models (DEM). Given the potential for differences in elevation among these two data sources, especially in response to forest canopy cover, our objective was to compare GPS and DEM-derived elevation values during the dormant season. A non-parametric Wilcoxon test indicated GPS elevation was higher than DEM elevation with a mean difference of 6 m. Linear regression analysis indicated that GPS and DEM elevation were well correlated (R = 0.71, r = 0.84, p < 0.0001). Although elevation among the two data sources differed, the strong linear relationship allows for correction of elevation values in a predictable manner.

Gis Integration of Aster Stereo Imagery for the Support of Watershed Management

In this study, ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) stereo imagery was analysed in combination with Global Positioning System (GPS) data and field observations, using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques to examine the potential of satellite remote sensing to support watershed management. Terrain elevation data were derived for the region of Herakl...

Forest Roads Mapped Using LiDAR in Steep Forested Terrain

LiDAR-derived digital elevation models can reveal road networks located beneath dense forest canopy. This study tests the accuracy of forest road characteristics mapped using LiDAR in the Santa Cruz Mountains, CA. The position, gradient, and total length of a forest haul road were accurately extracted using a 1 m DEM. In comparison to a field-surveyed centerline, the LiDAR-derived road exhibite...

Forest Management Effects on Surface Soil Carbon and Nitrogen Jennifer

Changes in surface soil C and N can resuh from forest management practices and may provide an index of impacts on long-term site productivity. Soil C and N were measured over time for five watersheds in the southern Appalachians: two aggrading hardwood forests, one southand one north-facing, undisturbed since the 1920s; a white pine (Pinus strobus L.) plantation planted in 1956; and two regener...

Automated DEM Production Using ESA Tandem Mission Data for the Caribou-Poker Creek LTER Watershed, Alaska

The Alaska SAR Facility has developed an automated procedure for production of a digital elevation model (DEM) from ESA tandem mission data. This software processes from ASF Computer Compatible Signal Data (CCSD) or Level Zero (raw) products to a map-projected, ground-range 30m DEM. Several advanced techniques have been integrated into the procedures to improve accuracy and to allow full automa...

Digital Elevation Model (dem) Generation from Sar Interferometry

SAR Interferometry (InSAR) provides data that contain information relating to the phase and coherence components of the backscattered radar signals. Phase information is used to derive Digital Elevation Models (DEM). This paper presents the results of an analysis of the accuracy of InSAR DEM derived from ESAR L-band airborne repeat-pass fully polarimetric InSAR data, which were acquired over Th...
